How to Connect Your Recruit Craft Career Page to GoDaddy

Learn how to connect a custom Recruit Craft career page domain to GoDaddy using CNAME DNS records.

This article walks through connecting either your full domain (for example, yourcompany.com) or a subdomain (for example, careers.yourcompany.com) to your Recruit Craft career page, from generating the DNS records in Recruit Craft, to adding them in GoDaddy, to verifying the connection. A subdomain uses CNAME records throughout. A full domain uses a CNAME for SSL verification and one or more A records to point your domain to your Website.

Before you begin

Make sure you have:

  • Access to Custom Domain settings in Recruit Craft.

  • Sign-in access to the GoDaddy account that manages your domain.

  • The domain or subdomain you want to use for your career page (for example, yourcompany.com or careers.yourcompany.com)

Generate your DNS records in Recruit Craft

Before making any changes in GoDaddy, you first need to generate the DNS records required by Recruit Craft. These records tell your domain provider where your Recruit Craft career page is hosted.

For a full domain


1. In Recruit Craft, go to Custom Domain from the panel on the left.


2. Under Default Project URL, set a unique name for your project and click Save. For a full domain setup, this name must match the domain you want to connect.

3. Under Custom Domain, enter your domain in both fields to confirm it, then click Connect.


Recruit Craft generates a CNAME record for SSL verification, plus one or more A records with static IP addresses to point your domain to your career page.


For a subdomain

1. In Recruit Craft, go to Custom Domain from the panel on the left.


2. Under Custom Domain, enter your preferred career page subdomain in both fields to confirm it, then click Connect.


3. Make sure the subdomain matches the name of your Default Project URL in Recruit Craft.
Recruit Craft generates two CNAME records. A CNAME (Canonical Name) record is a type of DNS record that directs a domain or subdomain to another address.
Copy the Name and Value for both records. You will need to add both records to GoDaddy.

Record 1: Used to verify your SSL certificate, which helps secure your career page connection.
Record 2: Used to point your subdomain to your Recruit Craft career page.


📌 Please note: Keep your records handy before moving to GoDaddy. You will need to add each one separately.

Add the DNS records in GoDaddy

Once you have your records from Recruit Craft, add them to your domain's DNS settings in GoDaddy. The SSL verification record is always a CNAME. The record that points your domain to your career page is a CNAME for a subdomain, but an A record for a full domain.

  1. Sign in to your GoDaddy Domain Portfolio.

  2. Select the domain you want to configure to open its Domain Settings page, then select DNS to view the existing DNS records.

  3. Select Add New Record, then select CNAME as the record Type.
    In the Name field, enter the Name provided by Recruit Craft.

    When entering the Name, GoDaddy applies the following restrictions:

    • Periods (.) are allowed but not as the first or last character

    • Consecutive periods (…) are not allowed

    • Cannot begin or end with a hyphen (-)

    • Cannot be the @ symbol

    • Not already in use by another record

    • 63 characters in a row not separated by a period (.)

      Example: 63characters.63characters.coolexample.com

    • 255 characters maximum


    In the Value field, enter the Value provided by Recruit Craft.
    Set the TTL to 1/2 hour.

  4. Select Save. Review the confirmation box and select Change, then Save to confirm.


    Repeat for the second CNAME record.

    📌 Please note: If Domain Protection is enabled, GoDaddy may ask you to verify your identity before the record can be saved.

For a full domain

1. Sign in to your GoDaddy Domain Portfolio.

2. Select the domain you want to configure to open its Domain Settings page, then select DNS.


3. Select Add New Record, then select CNAME as the record Type, to add the SSL verification record.
In the Name field, enter the Name provided by Recruit Craft.
In the Value field, enter the Value provided by Recruit Craft.
Set the TTL to 1/2 hour, then select Save.

4. Select Add New Record again, then select A as the record Type, to add the pointing record.
In the Name field, enter @ to apply the record to your root domain or companyname.com.
In the Value field, enter the static IP address Recruit Craft provided. If Recruit Craft gave you a second IP address, select Add another value and enter it there, rather than creating a second A record.
Set the TTL to 1/2 hour, then select Save.

📌 Please note

  • GoDaddy's CNAME record type doesn't support the root domain, which is why the pointing record for a full domain is an A record instead. If Recruit Craft provides two IP addresses, both serve the same content — this is a standard DNS pattern called round robin, used for redundancy.

  • If Domain Protection is enabled for your GoDaddy domain, GoDaddy may ask you to verify your identity using 2-step verification or a one-time passcode before either record can be saved.

Wait for DNS propagation

After saving the CNAME record, it may take some time for the DNS change to become available.

📌 Please note: Most DNS changes take effect within an hour, but they can take up to 48 hours to fully propagate. If your custom domain does not work immediately, wait for the DNS change to propagate and check again.

Once the record has propagated, return to Recruit Craft and continue or verify your custom domain setup.



Troubleshooting

Problem: Recruit Craft is asking you to add CAA records before you can continue with custom domain setup.

Why this is required: Recruit Craft uses AWS Certificate Manager (ACM) to issue the SSL certificate for your custom domain. The CAA record authorizes Amazon to issue a certificate for your domain.
If Recruit Craft displays CAA records during the custom domain setup, you must add those records to your DNS provider and verify them before you can proceed to the CNAME records.

​Resolution:
If Recruit Craft provides a CAA record, add the record to GoDaddy exactly as shown in the Recruit Craft custom domain setup.

For example, Recruit Craft will provide:

To add the record in GoDaddy:
1. Sign in to your GoDaddy Domain Portfolio.
2. Select the domain you want to configure, then go to Domain Settings > DNS.
3. Select Add New Record and choose CAA as the record type.
4. In Name, enter the name provided by Recruit Craft. Use the exact value shown in Recruit Craft.
5. If GoDaddy provides a CAA RDATA field, enter the complete value provided by Recruit Craft, for example:
​0 issue "amazon.com"
GoDaddy may automatically separate this into the corresponding CAA fields. If the fields are shown separately, enter:
​Flag: 0
​Tag: issue
​Domain: amazon.com
6. Leave TTL at its default value.


7. Select Save.
8. Return to Recruit Craft and select Verify.
Once the CAA record has been successfully verified, Recruit Craft will allow you to continue with the CNAME record setup.

Please note: If Recruit Craft provides a CAA record, use the values provided there rather than creating a different CAA record. If you already have CAA records for other certificate authorities, do not remove them unless you understand the impact of doing so.

FAQs

Can I connect my root domain, like yourcompany.com?

Yes. Full domain setup uses an A record to point your domain to your career page, and GoDaddy supports A records at the root domain, the Name field accepts @.

What if GoDaddy says the name is already in use?

This usually means another DNS record already exists for the same name.

Check your existing DNS records and edit or remove the conflicting record before adding the CNAME provided by Recruit Craft.

How long does it take for my custom domain to work?

Most DNS changes take effect within an hour, but allow up to 48 hours for the change to fully propagate.
