US carriers require clear, intentional consent before you can send text messages. If you’re sending SMS to US numbers through Recruit CRM (powered by Twilio), you must complete A2P 10DLC registration and comply with carrier consent rules; otherwise, your campaigns may be rejected, delayed, or suspended to prevent spam and protect consumers.
Why A2P 10DLC Registration Is Required
US carriers regulate application-to-person (A2P) messaging under the 10DLC framework. Any business sending SMS messages for recruitment communication must:
Register their messaging campaign
Clearly describe how consent is collected
Provide compliant consent language
Ensure users actively opt in before receiving messages
Recruit CRM supports compliant consent collection, but it must be properly configured before submitting your registration form.
Why Consent Is Required Under A2P 10DLC
Consent means a clear, affirmative action by the recipient indicating they agree to receive SMS messages from your company for a stated purpose.
To prevent rejection, Recruit CRM requires clients to configure compliant consent before submitting A2P registration details.
Required Disclosures in Consent Language
Your company name
Purpose of messaging (recruitment / hiring communication)
cross mark Don’t include your own name/ any brand’s name)
Purpose of messaging (recruitment / hiring communication)
That messages may be automated
That messages are sent using Recruit CRM
Message frequency (or “Message frequency may vary”)
“Message and data rates may apply”
Opt-out instructions (Reply STOP)
Help instructions (Reply HELP)

Approved Methods and ways to Collect SMS Consent
Recruit CRM supports two compliant methods for collecting consent from candidates.
1. Email-Based Consent
With email-based consent:
The candidate receives an email requesting confirmation.
The user must actively click to accept SMS communication.
Consent is recorded before any SMS is sent.
This method provides strong audit documentation and is recommended where possible.
How to Configure Email Consent:
Navigate to Admin Settings and Open SMS Opt-in Settings
Click on pencil icon to Edit and enter your approved SMS consent text and click save.
Ensure that the consent text includes all required regulatory disclosures.
Example Consent Text
By agreeing, you consent to receive automated SMS messages from {{Company Name}} related to recruitment and hiring communication. Messages are sent using Recruit CRM. Message frequency may vary. Message and data rates may apply. You can reply STOP to opt out at any time or HELP for assistance. Recruit CRM’s SMS Terms of Service are available at Terms of service | Recruit CRM and Privacy Policy can be found at Privacy policy | Recruit CRM.
Replace {{Company Name}} with your company’s name.
Please Note: You can adjust the text to match your brand’s tone, but all required disclosures must stay included. Also, make sure to include Recruit CRM’s Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy links exactly as shown in the example.
2. Web Form / Checkbox Consent
You can also collect consent through:
Job Application Forms
Talent Pool Forms
Profile Update Request Forms
For this method to be compliant:
The SMS consent checkbox must be unchecked by default
The user must manually select the checkbox
The consent wording must be clearly visible
Consent must be recorded only after form submission
To Enable SMS Consent in Forms
Go to Admin Settings → Job Application Form (you can also configure Talent Pool or Profile Update Request Forms; here we’re using Job Application Form as an example).
Scroll to the bottom, enable the SMS Consent checkbox, click the pencil icon to add your compliant checkbox consent text and save.
Example Checkbox consent text
By agreeing, you consent to receive automated SMS messages from {{Company Name}} related to recruitment and hiring communication. Messages are sent using Recruit CRM. Message frequency may vary. Message and data rates may apply. You can reply STOP to opt out at any time or HELP for assistance. The consent text configured in your account must exactly match the wording submitted in the A2P registration form.
Updating SMS Terms
In addition to SMS consent text, you must configure SMS Terms within Recruit CRM.
To update SMS Terms Consent text:
Go to Admin Settings → Job Application Form then locate SMS Terms and enter your compliant SMS Terms content and click Save.

Branding & Form Visibility Requirements
When collecting SMS consent via forms:
Your company name must be clearly displayed
Your company logo should appear on the form
The form URL should reflect your company name where possible
Carriers review these details to verify that consent is being collected by a legitimate business entity.
Consent via Sms (Not Recommended for US Campaigns)
SMS Keyword Opt-In will be deprecated soon, as guided by Twilio.
Please Note: Collecting consent via SMS (for example, asking users via SMS to reply START) is no longer considered compliant. This method should not be used.
You must collect SMS consent using:
Email-based consent
Web form / checkbox consent
Completing the A2P Registration Google Form

⚠️ Legal Risk & Penalties for Non-Compliance
⚠️ Legal Risk & Penalties for Non-Compliance
It’s important to understand that failure to follow SMS consent requirements is not just a product issue; it carries real legal and financial risk.
📌 US Legal Risk — Consumer Protection Act (TCPA)
Under US federal law (the TCPA), text messages sent without proper consent are treated as unsolicited communications and can lead to substantial fines:
✔ Federal penalties can range from $500 to $1,500 per violation (per message) when consent is missing or invalid.
✔ Individual recipients can pursue private legal actions including class action lawsuits that may result in significant costs, often adding up into the tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars for multiple violations.
📌 Carrier Enforcement Penalties
Carriers themselves also enforce rules:
✔ Unregistered or non-compliant SMS traffic may be blocked by carriers and not delivered at all.
✔ Carriers can impose fines up to several thousand dollars per violation, especially for repeated non-compliance or abuse.
These penalties are passed through to the sender and can significantly exceed normal messaging costs.
Hope this helps!
