This article walks you through different ways to find and access data, whether through collections, search, or databases.

Written by Likhitha Satya Maansi Rudra

The easiest way to explore data in Advanced Analytics is by looking at dashboards and charts that your teammates have already created.

Step-by-step instructions on how to find Data Sources

If you prefer to explore data directly from source tables, you can browse available databases.

To browse databases and tables:

1.Open the left sidebar and go to Browse → Databases.

2.Select the Recruit CRM database.

Recruit CRM provides a structured way to manage recruitment data through various entities like Candidates, Contacts, Jobs, Deals, Call Logs, and more. Each of these entities holds essential information that helps recruiters streamline their workflow, track progress, and make informed decisions.

How to Explore Data?

Each entity allows you to drill down into detailed records and analyze specific data points. By clicking on an entity, you can:

  • View detailed information about records.

  • Filter and search based on different attributes.

  • Track changes and updates over time.

Find Questions and Dashboards

1. Browse Collections

Collections in Advanced Analytics work like folders, storing dashboards and charts. You can find them in the left navigation sidebar.

To access a collection:

1.Open the left sidebar (click ☰ if it’s hidden).

2.Click on a collection (e.g., Shared Collection 662).

Inside, you’ll see:

  • Pinned Dashboards (e.g., "Default Dashboard" & "Client Requirements Dashboard") – for quick access.

  • Other Items – charts, reports, or additional Collections.

Tip: You can pin important dashboards and create subcollections to stay organized.

2. Use Search to Find Data

Search will look through names, descriptions, and metadata of your questions and dashboard.

If you already have an idea of what you're looking for (e.g., "total deals per recruiter"), type Keyword in Search box to quickly locate dashboards, questions, or tables.

To search for data:

1.Click on Search (top-right of the screen).

Summary

You can find data in Advanced Analytics in two ways:

  • Browse collections: View existing questions and dashboards.

  • Browse Databases & Tables: Explore raw data from available sources.

Troubleshooting

Problem: The left navigation panel shows "An error occurred," collections or navigation items fail to load, collections appear missing, or new dashboards/collections/questions cannot be created.

Likely cause: A browser ad blocker or content blocker is preventing one or more API requests required to populate the sidebar and load or create collection data.

What to check: Verify whether an ad blocker or content blocker is enabled.

Confirm whether Personal Collections and Shared Collections are visible.

Check whether creating a new dashboard, collection, or question results in an infinite loading spinner.

Resolution path: Disable the browser's ad blocker or content blocker and refresh the Metabase page. Verify that the sidebar loads correctly, collections are visible, and dashboards, collections, and questions can be created successfully.

Note: If you're using Arc Browser, its built-in content blocker can cause this issue even with other ad blockers disabled. Disable Arc's built-in blocker specifically for the Metabase site, then reload the page.

Conclusion:

Whether you start from existing dashboards and collections or browse raw database tables directly, Advanced Analytics gives you multiple paths to locate the data you need. Using Search alongside collections makes it faster to find the right question, dashboard, or table without digging manually.
